Lots of birds, protected plants, and grazing or wallowing buffaloes await those visitors who explore the Hortobágy Great Fishponds on foot. Visitors can walk up to 5 kilometers along the inner dyke between the fishponds, making it easy to reach the more distant parts of the area. There are excellent opportunities for walking and biking in the nearly 2000 hectare fishpond system. Bird-watching towers, information boards and a boardwalk are among the available facilities. The fishpond area is internationally protected and it is one of the most well-known and famous wetland bird habitats. The outstanding aquatic birdlife provides attractions for all seasons for both beginners and advanced birders. The most spectacular event of the year is the autumn migration of cranes: in October, up to 40 thousand cranes roost simultaneously in the drained fishponds. The area can be visited on foot or by bike with a valid entrance card. Children can spend fun moments on our playground.

Turn to Hortobágy-Halastó on the mainroad 33 close to the 67th milestone and drive until the Halászbárka Information Centre
